Wicklow Primary Healthcare Centre Phase 2

Location:

Knockrobin, Wicklow

Description:

The design concept is to create an elegant form that interacts with the existing contours of the site and provides a natural continuation with the existing health care buildings along the private lane way.

The elevation design has been carefully considered to minimise the scale of the building. The building has been articulated as three horizontal layers. The ground floor level has been treated with a dark grey coloured render which provides the building with an architectural plinth. The first and second floor levels area contained within a white picture frame with light grey coloured render inside. The third floor level is treated with a light grey coloured render with a horizontal powered coated metal louver to provide a light weight form on top.

The elevation treatment provides evolving views as the form unfolds itself as the viewer navigates along the building. This creates an interesting and elegant three dimensional architectural form.

The building accommodates many departments and services, all serving the public and the local community. The many consulting and treatment rooms are located on external walls to provide these spaces with natural light, ventilation and pleasant views to the surrounding area.

In developing the design scheme, the client and design team have been conscious of the need and requirement to reduce emissions and maximise the energy efficiency of this development and also to incorporate, where possible, the sustainable components that will reduce the overall environmental impacts to the lowest possible level.
