Location:
Rathangan, Co. Wexford
Description:
Church maintenance is a very particular field and must be handled with particular sensitivity as, typically, such structures, represent some of the finest examples of surviving architecture from bygone centuries, in which case we have a duty of care not to detract from their historical, architectural or social merits.
Mahon | Fox Architects have been involved with an array of conservation works involving the Church of the Assumption and St. Laurence O’Toole in Rathangan, Co. Wexford. Most notably to date are the repair works to the stone steeple which involved careful deconstruction of most of the stone steeple down to the Belfry to allow for stone repairs, repointing and the replacement of corroded iron ties to ensure the structure will remain intact long into the future.
We are currently working towards preparing a detailed specification for re-roofing works for the church and received planning permission for these works in late 2025.
Role:
Design team lead, Architectural Consultant, Conservation Architect
